Arthur's Pass Day 1 - Devil's Punchbowl and Bealey Track

Lucas and I on the way up to Arthur's Pass

Lower portion of the Devil's Punchbowl Falls

Devil's Punchbowl

Mustafa, Lucas, Elena and me at the falls.

Part of the Bridal Veil Falls

The water is freezing and is very photogenic.

The beginning of Bealey Track.

The plateau  on Bealey Track overlooking the Waimakariri River Valley.

Looking the opposite direction of the previous picture, where the Waimakariri River begins  up in the Southern Alps.

Same location at the picture above but looking up the road to Arthur's Pass Village.  This river is relatively empty now but in the winter months is can over power this entire valley.

Looking down river.

Looking down river and the sun is beginning to peak through the clouds.

Bealey Track meadow.

"friendly" Kea.  This is the only alpine parrot in the world.  They have bright orange spots under their wings which you can only see when they are flying.  I say "friendly" because they are not afraid of humans, but are tricky little birds always looking to get into things.  We saw a lot of them on this short trip.
